Building bridges in research
The International Graduate School of Science and Engineering (IGSSE) is an interdisciplinary thematic graduate center. It follows the objective to bring together researchers from diverse disciplines and across different institutions. A single mastermind has rarely developed groundbreaking innovations. Therefore, by combining expertise from various areas, the IGSSE aims to foster cutting-edge research. With our research programs, we want to overcome hurdles of collaboration. Instead, the IGSSE serves to faciliate and build bridges across researchers, departments and insititutions.
Our programs call for projects with an international, interdisciplinary and/or intersectoral focus. In competitive selection processes, we want to challenge our applicants to think outside the box and create the best possible way to set their research ideas into practice. With our Qualification Program, we further accompany young talents in research to develop skills going beyond their scientific expertise. We are committed to build lasting and sustainable relations. This is why, we provide our members with networking opportunities and thereby, lay the foundation for future cooperation.
The concept of IGSSE has developed from the German Excellence Initiative, which the IGSSE has won in 2006 and 2012. Since its founding, the IGSSE acts as the strategic hub to fund innovative research across TUM departments and their international research partners. As a Thematic Graduate Center at TUM, IGSSE is also part of the TUM Graduate School.
