Last week the time finally came: the JADS Winter School took place for the first time at the TUM Campus Garching. JADS doctoral candidates, PIs and guests came together for three days of scientific exchange and workshops. The Winter School was above all a must-attend event for the JADS doctoral candidates in the first cohort on ‘Artificial Intelligence, Healthcare and Robotics’: an important part of the Winter School was the project reports held by doctoral candidates, in which they presented their research progress and latest development throughout the doctorate. JADS doctoral candidates of the other cohorts and project partners at Imperial College were also invited to this hybrid event, contributing to lively discussions and scientific exchange across disciplines. The project presentations were followed by lab visits, excursions to industrial partners and two workshops.
To reflect the growing importance of artificial intelligence, the first workshop focussed on "Ethical Implications of AI in Medical Applications". The second workshop, on the other hand, was characterised by entrepreneurial thinking and start-ups basics.
The JADS Winter School is an important part of our qualification programme for JADS doctoral candidates. Each JADS cohort organises 1-2 seasonal schools to strengthen scientific exchange within and across the cohort. It serves as motivation for collaborative discussions, knowledge exchange and to ensure research excellence.
